Mise-en-scène Doc Martin

How we know that the Doc Martin clip is set in a village:

  • There are dark low lit rooms with contents that are not particularly modern or new.
  •  The clothing worn by everyone except Doc Martin is very rural, informal and old fashioned and made for more physical labour instead of office work.
  • In the clip the doc is having trouble with his plumbing therefore the house is not in good shape and quite old.
  • The streets are very narrow with old fashion cobbled buildings and streets.
  • There is a single seaside like shop instead of lots of shops or well known shops.
  • The police station is very small, village like and only has one policemen.
  • The policemen is hoovering and not occupied with crime.
  • There are no main roads and no major traffic on the roads.
  • The school is very small and old fashioned and doesn't appear to have the same security measures as town schools.
  • The shops seem to be selling local produce instead of foods from far away.
  • There can be a fairly strong breeze in the scene suggesting near the sea.
  • People seem in no urgency to be anywhere as they would in a town. They look relaxed and not stressed.
